Buffalo Trace is our Whiskey of the Month for June!

I have to say this month couldn’t have come too soon, since our Whiskey of the Month for June is Buffalo Trace, my personal standby and a world-class bourbon by any measure. So, for you Big Jones Bourbon Society members, here’s the chance to come early, come often, and enjoy a complimentary pour of the one whiskey I personally consume more of than any other, and I’m confident you’ll be a convert if you’re not already on the Buffalo Trace. It’s the flagship bourbon of Buffalo Trace distillery, am operation with a stunning collection of whiskeys from the value-priced market to the luxury market. Certainly at its mid-$20’s price range, Buffalo Trace is absolutely the best in its class, scoring 93.5 recently from the Whiskey Bible, and more recently a rare “Double Gold” at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2012.

This from Jim Murray of Whisky Magazine:

Nose: Outstanding aroma, kicked off by a spicy prickle. Satisfyingly deep, gently vanilla-ed and molassed with even a sprig of sweet mint.
Palate: A rip-roaring waxy sweetness checked by a big buildup of vanilla-rich oak. Corn is chewy, and rye offers a rich textured background.
Finish: Dries at last as the oak takes command, but rye offers extra depth and a layer of bitterness, as does a lingering licorice.
Comment: Big, moody, uncompromising and complex beyond belief.
“One of the world’s great whiskeys.”

It’s free to join the Big Jones Bourbon Society, just ask your server or bartender to sign up on your next visit. You’ll receive a passport to forty of our more than sixty whiskeys. On each visit, members are welcome to one complimentary pour of the Whiskey of the Month (WOM) which will usually (but not always) be a straight Kentucky bourbon whiskey. Big Jones Bourbon Society members will also receive invitations to members-only events such as whiskey tastings and whiskey socials.

Of course you’re welcome to enjoy any whiskey on our list at any time. We’ll mark off your passport as you taste each of the forty whiskeys, and once you’ve tasted them all, you will earn the distinction of Master Taster, and win tickets for two to a one-of-a-kind all-out whiskey dinner. As the ranks of Master Tasters grows, we will host a series of monthly dinners for Master Tasters only.
