July Whiskey of the Month: Elmer T. Lee!

We’re pleased to announce our July Whiskey of the Month is Elmer T. Lee, as our summer of Buffalo Trace continues. Produced by Buffalo Trace under the watchful eye of master distiller Harlen Wheatley, this single barrel bourbon is pure elegance in a bottle.  Elmer T. Lee is named after one of Buffalo Trace’s former master distillers who is credited with creating one of the first single barrel bourbons back in the 1984 with the release of Blanton’s.  The nose on this whiskey shows intense fruit aromas of orange peel, citrus, and green apple with undertones of butterscotch and vanilla all wrapped up in an old leather jacket.  There is also a fair bit of cigar box spice on the nose with hints of orange blossom and rose petal.  Bottled at 90 proof the alcohol is very well balanced and makes Elmer T. Lee an easy sipping whiskey.  Two ounces of Elmer T. Lee with a half ounce Dolin sweet vermouth makes for a wonderful Manhattan that will bring out the cocoa flavors of the bourbon that are hidden underneath. We wish everyone a happy and safe Independence Day and hope you can all enjoy a glass of Elmer T. Lee. Of course if you have none on hand, stop in for a pour.  Cheers.

It’s free to join the Big Jones Bourbon Society, just ask your server or bartender to sign up on your next visit. You’ll receive a passport to forty of our more than sixty whiskeys. On each visit, members are welcome to one complimentary pour of the Whiskey of the Month (WOM) which will usually (but not always) be a straight Kentucky bourbon whiskey. Big Jones Bourbon Society members will also receive invitations to members-only events such as whiskey tastings and whiskey socials.

Of course you’re welcome to enjoy any whiskey on our list at any time. We’ll mark off your passport as you taste each of the forty whiskeys, and once you’ve tasted them all, you will earn the distinction of Master Taster, and win tickets for two to a one-of-a-kind all-out whiskey dinner. As the ranks of Master Tasters grows, we will host a series of monthly dinners for Master Tasters only.
