We’re pleased to share as our Whiskey of the Month for November a spirit with a unique history. Cyrus Noble was first crafted in 1871 and soon became the spirit of choice for miners trying to strike it rich during the San Francisco gold rush. The popularity of this whiskey soon had it in every miner’s saloon, upscale home, and bar, a fixture on the Western front. Long off the market, it was relaunched last year by Haas Bothers of San Francisco, a retailer who’s been around 160 years and the major grocer that first put Cyrus Noble into the hands of its customers. Now many years later with the original mash bill of 75% corn, 20% rye, and 5% malted barley you to can taste a little bit of what fueled the old west. Having spent five years in barrel Cyrus Noble has a velvety texture with hints of vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, and toffee. At 90 proof Cyrus Noble has a nice long mouth coating finish with a hint of tobacco and spice. Big Jones will keep Cyrus Noble flowing all month so anytime you need a little warm-me-up stop on by. Cheers and keep drinking whiskey
It’s free to join the Big Jones Bourbon Society, just ask your server or bartender to sign up on your next visit. You’ll receive a passport to forty of our more than sixty whiskeys. On each visit, members are welcome to one complimentary pour of the Whiskey of the Month (WOM) which will usually (but not always) be a straight Kentucky bourbon whiskey. Big Jones Bourbon Society members will also receive invitations to members-only events such as whiskey tastings and whiskey socials.
Of course you’re welcome to enjoy any whiskey on our list at any time. We’ll mark off your passport as you taste each of the forty whiskeys, and once you’ve tasted them all, you will earn the distinction of Master Taster, and win tickets for two to a one-of-a-kind all-out whiskey dinner. As the ranks of Master Tasters grows, we will host a series of dinners for Master Tasters.
