In honor of Craft Beer Week, on Wednesday, May 24, Big Jones welcomes Marz Community Brewing for a special collaborative beer dinner and celebration of Chicago’s immigrant and refugee communities.
We at Big Jones took to Marz Community Brewing right from their start. We’ve followed the exploits of Ed Marzewski and his merry band of rabblerousers since long before Big Jones was born, when we discovered the elusive and treasured zine Lumpen, and the marvelously creative community they have created and fostered in and around Bridgeport and across the city. Importantly for us, Marz’ approach is deeply rooted in community and a small-batch, artisan ethic which perfectly matches our approach to eating and drinking at Big Jones.
All proceeds from the dinner benefit Centro Romero and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. Both Centro Romero and ICIRR will be on hand to discuss the issues facing immigrants and refugees in today’s United States, and highlight the work their organizations are doing to assist individuals and families struggling with migration or displacement. Brewmaster Tim Lange will be on hand to serve thirsty beer enthusiasts and discuss Marz’ unique and innovative approach to beer, and Chef Paul Fehribach will step out of the Southern U.S. to craft a menu highlighting the cuisines of some historically repressed cultures, who happen to have a beautiful story to tell about people who created them.
The evening will begin with a special release of a collaborative brew between Tim Lange and Paul Fehribach, brewed especially for this event and premiering as a limited release. You won’t want to miss this! We hope you’ll join us, enjoy a modern approach to some unique world cuisines, and celebrate one of the best and most innovative craft breweries in the world.
